We ended up visiting Vegan Barrio twice during our trip. The el pastor vegan tacos were excellent, along with a couple of their other taco options. The coconut horchata was a standout too, lightly sweetened with agave instead of sugar, which made it feel refreshing rather than heavy. The only thing that missed the mark for me was the enchiladas. I was expecting traditional tortillas, but it turned out to be tortilla chips with sauce, which didn’t quite live up to the rest of the menu. That said, the vibe is great, the server was incredibly friendly, and if you’re coming for tacos, you really can’t go wrong, they won’t disappoint.

I loved this place when I visited. The woman serving me was very smiley and friendly. Her demanour alongside the relaxed outdoor seating gave the restaurant a nice atmosphere. It was fairly quiet when I visited but I was happy to read my book whilst I ate. I really liked the menu as it had dishes that seemed to be authentic mexican cuisine which I hadn't found on other vegan menu's during my travels. Hot sauce was served separately so that I could adjust the dish to my taste. Food was delicious and filling! I also got a mango juice and the staff member said she wasn't sure if the mangoes were sweet enough so she could sweeten it if I preferred. I kept it natural, without sweetening it and it was good but I thought it was very considerate of her to offer. It was a shame I was only on Cozumel for 1 day, otherwise I would have like to try some other items on the menu. Everything sounded great!!

Delicious food and healthy. They have gluten free options if you need them. I particularly enjoyed the maracuya and mint drink with sparkling water. The chorizo tofu was well spiced.

We had the tacos barrio and honestly they were the best tacos I’ve ever had. The homemade blue corn tortillas with the seitan steak were incredible. The soy chorizo was great too. They really know how to do seitan here, the texture and flavour are spot on and it actually tastes authentic. Apparently they moved to this new location about nine months ago. It’s right near the dock and it’s a total gem. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

Delicious Mexican vegan food. Cute place with a big menu and options for allergies and gluten-free people. Photos are tofu scramble and a deconstructed burrito to make it gluten-free. Many healthy options and some decadent drinks and desserts too. Eat there, you’ll love it! And shout out to Maria - very good English for those of is Spanish challenged folks.

100% amazing. If we had more time we would’ve ordered everything on the menu. But the quesadillas were my favorite hands down (tacos were a close 2nd - I don’t have a pic of the quesadillas because I ate them so fast). I am so happy to have found this restaurant. The staff (I think maybe the owner) was great! The next time we are in Cozumel we will 100% be back!! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants amazing food with amazing Mexican flavour. Gracias!

The seitan steak was SOOOO good!!! And the coffee was really good (surprising! Most good food places I feel like have bad coffee). Oat milk available. So many vegan protein options. Considered staying in Cozumel longer just to eat more here.

I’ve been eating plant-based for years and I can honestly say VeganBarrio is one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. This isn’t “good vegan food,” it’s just outstanding food—full of flavour, perfectly balanced, and incredibly satisfying. Every dish feels intentional, nourishing, and made by people who genuinely understand plant-based cooking. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, the quality is consistent, and nothing feels like a compromise or an afterthought. This has become my favourite restaurant, and it completely raised my standards for what plant-based food can be. If you care about great food, this place is a must.
